History of Château d'Aveny
The Marquis de Broglie sells the lands, fiefs and seigneury of Aveny to the Dame de Fayet.
Mr and Mrs de Fayet carry out restoration works: main building, east and west wings, fencing of park, kitchen garden and park paths, construction of stables and dovecote, courtyard paving, development of the mill isle and construction of the farm barn.
Several marriages were celebrated at the château, the earliest on April 24, 1800, between the owners' eldest daughter, Amélie-Honorine de Fayet, and Ange-Guillaume Aubourg, comte de Boury.
After the war, Marquis Léon de Fayet rebuilt the château's two pavilions, raised the roofs and gave the complex its current silhouette. The château was first the residence of the Marquis de Fayet, then of the de Robien family.
Taken over by the Domaines & événements group and Adélaïde Chambiard.
The Château has been extensively renovated, notably in the Grande Galerie, a magnificent 220m2 air-conditioned reception room in the Château, in the lobby, the lounges, and the rooms in the Château, the Orangerie and the houses on the estate.
Domaine d'Aveny has recently transformed its accommodation and houses, to offer guests unrivalled comfort and a luxurious experience. Each room has been carefully renovated, combining classic elegance with modern amenities. Some rooms have air conditioning.
Further information
We don't know the dates of the first works on the château, which was built on the foundations of an 11th-century fortified house. But the château as you see it today took shape shortly before the French Revolution. (When the Marquis de Broglie sold the seigneury of Aveny to the Fayets on February 12, 1778, the estate was in a pitiful state! The first floor of the château was "as uninhabitable as a cellar"). From 1779 to 1794, major restoration work was carried out. In 1779, the main building was raised, as were the east and west wings; the park and kitchen garden were fenced off, and the park paths laid out and planted. In 1781, the stables and dovecote were built, and in 1783, the courtyard was paved.
It was almost a century later, after the 1870 war, that the Marquis Léon de Fayet rebuilt the château's two pavilions, raised the roofs and gave the complex its current silhouette. The château was the residence of the Marquis de Fayet and then of the de Robien family.
Taken over in 2021 by the Domaines & événements group and the Chambriard family, the estate has undergone extensive renovation, notably of the Grande Galerie, a magnificent 220m2 reception room in the château, fully insulated and air-conditioned with new woodwork and frames. Renovations have also been carried out in the bedrooms, lobby, lounges, Orangerie (the former stables) and the Maisons du Domaine.
